Quickstart Tail Assembly

You Don’t Have to Go It Alone!

We’ll TAILKIT 3a.jpgteach you how to build your RV-6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 empennage, thereby giving you the skills you’ll need to complete your entire airplane. No pricey tools to buy and use just once... no critical jigs to build and then junk. In just one week you can have a precisely built professionally checked empennage, along with the know-how and confidence you need to finish your whole RV.

The cost? Just $1575 for all Series except the RV-10 (see below).  That’s less than $35 an hour for a secure comfortable work space, all the tools and jigs you need, plus full-time professional instructors with lots of RV experience. We provide you with 5 days of instruction - 10 hours per day.  Most builders will complete the majority of their tail assembly within the 50 hours.  At the end of the 5 days if your tail section has not been completed, you have the option to continue at a rate of $35 per hour until your tail kit is completely built.  If you do not finish within the 50 hours you also have the option to complete the kit at home using the new skills you have learned.  This enables the builder to work at his or her own pace to turn out a quality product.  This also allows our instructors to focus on instruction rather than pushing to finish all pieces of the kit.

Pricing for the RV-10 is $2195 for the empennage providing 6 full days of instruction - 10 hours per day or 60 total hours of instruction.  The same option as the other models applies - if you do not finish your tail kit within the allotted 60 hours you may stay and complete the entire assembly for just $35 per hour.  Most builders will complete the RV-10 empennage in 60-70 hours.

Our primary focus is to teach you how to build your RV series airplane.  We want you to learn all of the basics necessary to go home and complete a high quality aircraft.

Why do You Need This Program?

All too often a builder lays out his money, receives a garage full of crates and boxes, andNTAIL2a.jpg is overwhelmed. He just doesn’t know where to begin for fear he’ll do something wrong and ruin his investment. Some let their empennage kits sit in their garages for months... or even years. Some builders do jump in alone, but then end up having to redo parts of their empennage kits as their skills improve. Our empennage kit program prevents this from happening. It removes the fear factor of making expensive mistakes; it jump-starts your confidence. You’ll come away from this program with a properly completed empennage kit plus the skills and confidence you need to go forward and finish your RV. All of a sudden that garage full of crates and boxes is transformed from a depressing albatross to a very doable project that will become the airplane of your dreams..

The RV Empennage Kit Program

tail_finished.jpgOur empennage kit program is recommended by Van's Aircraft, so you know it’s right. It stays well within the FAA’s guidelines to guarantee that your finished tail meets the “51% rule” requirements. We’ll teach you how to build your RV, but we won’t build it for you. We’ll provide the FAA documents you need, help you start your builder's log, show you how to read blueprints and instructions, and teach you sheet metal basics. We provide honest legal support, so you end up with an honest legal airplane. It’s a tremendously satisfying experience.

  • But this is no walk in the park; you’ll put in 10 hours a day for at least 5 straight days, so come prepared to work! The empennage kit program starts with Van's Aircraft shipping your kit to our facility. You’ll begin actual work on a Monday morning at 0800.
